Portable Power Station Buying Guide for RV & Overlanding (What Actually Matters)

Capacity is the spec everyone shops on. On the road, four other numbers matter more.

A home-backup buyer plugs in a unit and leaves it in the garage. You're loading, unloading, and running yours off solar and a moving vehicle. That changes what "best" means.

What you can safely ignore

Smart-home integration and app polish are nice-to-haves, not trip-critical. Same for oversized peak/surge claims — you're running a fridge and lights off-grid, not a table saw. Don't pay a premium for headroom you won't use.

The short version

The Jackery Explorer 2000 v2's 40 lb weight and EcoFlow's alternator-charging option matter more on the road than either brand's raw output number. Weigh the unit, check the alternator spec, then look at capacity.
